Rufus was running late, not that Reno minded, the blonde always kept his appointments with him. Besides, it gave him some time to think. He sat in Rufus’ chair feet propped up on the other man’s desk, clove-scented smoke curling up from the cigarette held between his lips and thought about how the different choices they’d made had affected them.
Reno was bi. He didn’t really have a preference for one gender or the other, he’d take what he could get; but Rufus was gay, he didn’t like pussy and he didn’t find anything about women attractive. Except maybe their mouths. Thinking back, he could remember walking in on Elena giving Rufus a blowjob and being asked if he’d like to join in on the fun.
Reno would blatantly ignore Tseng’s ‘No sex on the clock’ policy if it didn’t directly endanger Rufus, if Rufus didn’t honor it. Which accounted for Reno being in Junon on his day off, instead of at the lounge in Healin with Rude or plowing some sweet honey.
Not everything was about sex, though. Rufus chose to run Shin-Ra differently than his father had, Reno had the option to leave, but he stayed to see what he’d make of the company. Rufus chose to use the Mako Cannon against the Diamond Weapon, and Reno chose to risk his life to pull him out of the rubble and save him. Reno could’ve jumped ship, like so many others, when the shit hit the fan, but he stayed because he believed in Rufus.
And Reno did all that because he cared about Rufus. He wanted to see Rufus succeed, to help repair the damage done to the planet because he loved the other man.
Reno wasn’t given much more time to think, because at that moment, Rufus walked in the door. Reno got out of the chair, snuffing out his cigarette as he stood and left the office with his boss. He was happy with the way things had turned out and he knew Rufus wouldn’t have it any other way either.
